Overview

STING is a fast FPV interceptor quadcopter developed by Wild Hornets, a Ukrainian volunteer-founded drone manufacturer (Wild Hornets Charitable Fund) that began supplying combat drones to Ukrainian forces in spring 2023. STING was built specifically to counter the Iranian-designed Shahed-136/131 one-way-attack drones and their cheaper Gerbera decoy variants that Russia launches in mass raids against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Reported speed figures for the type have increased over successive iterations, with baseline reporting in early 2025 citing speeds around 127 mph (about 205 km/h) at altitudes near 3,400 feet (roughly 1 km), and later testing in mid-2025 showing a variant reaching 315 km/h. Wild Hornets states the drone carries an AI-assisted intelligent target guidance system to help operators achieve reliable terminal intercepts, paired with the company's "Hornet Vision" system for 360-degree signal coverage, and cites an 80 to 90 percent hit rate with roughly six days of operator training. As of the most recent public reporting, Wild Hornets credits the STING with more than 200 confirmed intercepts, including 78 Shahed-136/131 drones and 127 Gerbera decoys.
