Overview
The 6TD-2's opposed-piston, horizontally-configured layout is a distinctive Kharkiv design lineage running back through the Soviet-era 5TDF, chosen for a lower profile than a conventional inline or V-configuration diesel. A higher-output 6TD-3 derivative rated at roughly 1,500 hp has been offered as an upgrade path for the T-84 line.
