Overview
Akeron LP (Longue Portee) is MBDA's next step up from the fielded Akeron MP (MMP) anti-tank missile: a materially larger, longer-range weapon rather than a variant of the same round, weighing under 40 kg and measuring 1.7 m in its tactical canister versus the Akeron MP's 15 kg and roughly 1.3 m. MBDA describes it as its most advanced multi-role guided missile in development, combining optronics, a multipurpose warhead, an RF two-way data link and AI-assisted image-processing guidance. The missile supports selectable lock-on-before-launch or lock-on-after-launch engagement, third-party target designation, and mid-flight target-designation refresh for engagements beyond an obstacle or beyond line of sight. Its multipurpose warhead is designed against armour, infrastructure, ships, helicopters and personnel, giving land and naval forces a single round for varied threats. As of mid-2026 the program remains in development with no publicly disclosed in-service date.
