Israel Tests Arrow Upgrade Built From Its War With Iran

Israel’s Missile Defense Organization, the US Missile Defense Agency, the IDF and Israel Aerospace Industries jointly test-fired an upgraded Arrow interceptor at a site in central Israel on August 5, 2026, the first Arrow flight test since the end of Israel’s recent war with Iran to be publicly described as incorporating combat lessons from that conflict directly into the interceptor’s design. What the test actually demonstrated

Where Arrow sits in Israel’s defense architecture

Arrow forms the top of a three-layer Israeli air-defense stack: David’s Sling handles medium-range threats beneath it, and Iron Dome and the newer Iron Beam laser system handle short-range rockets, mortars and drones closer to the ground. Arrow’s job is specifically the long-range ballistic missiles that Iran and its allied forces in Yemen have fired at Israel, the highest-consequence threat class the country faces.

IMDO Director Moshe Patel put the war’s lesson in institutional terms: “The War of Redemption proved the importance of the multi-layered aerial defense array,” Patel said, describing how the program “incorporated advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, the application of combat lessons,” according to European Security & Defence’s August 6 report. IAI Chairman Boaz Levy added that the system “plays a decisive role in defending Israel against threats from Iran and its proxies,” per the same report.

Why the automated-manufacturing framing matters

Over the past three years, Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 have intercepted numerous ballistic missiles fired at Israel from Iran and Yemen, including exo-atmospheric intercepts carried out above the atmosphere, according to European Security & Defence’s reporting.
