Trackfire

Trackfire is a remotely operated, gyro-stabilised weapon station that can be armed with weapons ranging from a 7.62 mm machine gun up to a 30 mm chain gun or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher, with missile and non-lethal effector options. Its Stabilised Independent Line Of Sight (SILOS) arrangement keeps the sensor and the weapon locked on target independently of platform motion, enabling fire on the move from ships and vehicles alike. Saab developed it with private funding from 2004 and launched it publicly at DSEi in 2007. It has since been fielded on Finnish and Lithuanian naval combatants including missile boats, landing craft, minelayers and corvettes, and on Swedish Army vehicles such as the Sisu GTP and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 6x6. Sweden's FMV has ordered the newer Trackfire ARES variant, armed with the 30x113 mm M230LF Bushmaster chain gun and cued by a Giraffe 1X radar, for counter-drone defence on Army and Amphibious Battalion platforms, with deliveries running from 2026. Several fields are deliberately absent rather than unknown. Trackfire is a weapon station with no independent mobility, so it has no speed, range, endurance or ceiling of its own. No single calibre is recorded because the station supports four or more calibres depending on the fit; the full list is captured under compatible weapons instead. Rate of fire likewise belongs to whichever weapon is mounted, not to the station. The 280 kg figure is the director unit weight excluding weapons and ammunition, which is why it is recorded as empty weight; no all-up combat weight for a specific weapon fit is published. The laser rangefinder's stated range of more than 4,000 m is a sensor specification and is not a weapon effective range, so it has not been recorded as one.
