Overview

Trophy (Hebrew: Meil Ruach, 'Windbreaker') is a hard-kill active protection system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with Leonardo DRS/EuroTrophy as international production partners. A radar (with an optional electro-optical channel) detects and classifies an incoming threat, the system computes an intercept solution and alerts the crew and battle-management system, then, only if the threat poses genuine danger to the platform, launches a Multiple Explosively Formed Projectile (MEFP) countermeasure to neutralize it at standoff distance, minimizing collateral effects. TROPHY HV, the combat-proven full-size variant for heavy and medium armored vehicles, offers 360-degree azimuth coverage and has been operationally deployed by the Israel Defense Forces since August 2009, seeing extensive combat use on Merkava Mark 4 tanks and Namer APCs; it was subsequently selected to equip U.S. Army M1A1/M1A2 Abrams tanks and Germany's Leopard 2A7A1. The lighter TROPHY VPS (Vehicle Protection System) repackages the same detection and defeat technology for medium and light armored vehicles and has been tested on Stryker and Bradley platforms. As of 2023, roughly 40 Trophy systems and 500 countermeasures were being produced per month.
