Overview

Patria NEMO Container takes the company's remote-controlled 120 mm NEMO mortar turret and installs it in a standard 20-foot ISO container, producing a firing unit that is independent of any one carrier vehicle. The container is a standalone system in its own right: it carries its own water-cooled auxiliary power unit, an AC/DC converter, split-type air conditioning with heat-recovery ventilation and G4 air filtration, an air compressor, internal LED lighting, and GFE-ready intercom and radio provisions. Because it uses ISO 3874 lifting and ISO 668/1161 corner fittings plus a STANAG 2413 flatrack interface, the same container can be transported and fired from heavy or light military trucks, from rail wagons, from any vessel able to carry a 20-foot container, or simply emplaced as a static firing unit for camp and base protection. Patria publishes two weights for the system: a container curb weight of 6,600 kg without the weapon system, and a gross weight of 11,400 kg with the weapon system installed, 100 rounds aboard and three crew members. The 11,400 kg figure is the one recorded here as combat weight. The turret itself weighs 1,900 kg, traverses a full 360 degrees, elevates from -3 to +85 degrees and uses electrical laying with a manual back-up. Crew is two to three, and on-board ammunition stowage is carrier dependent, typically quoted at 50 to 60 rounds for the turret itself. The armament is a 120 mm smoothbore mortar with a 3,000 mm barrel, electrical semi-automatic loading and a hydro-pneumatic recoil system, backed by an integrated remote weapon station and smoke launchers. The system opens fire in under 25 seconds, puts its first three rounds downrange in 15 seconds, sustains 6 rounds per minute against a maximum of 10, and can displace immediately afterwards. Range is published as '10+ km' and depends on the ammunition fired, so the figure recorded here is a manufacturer-stated floor rather than a ceiling. Like the vehicle-mounted NEMO, the containerised version can perform Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact, placing up to five rounds on a single target at ranges between 1.0 and 6.5 km, and it fires all standard smoothbore mortar ammunition. Rated operating temperature range is -19 to +49 degrees Celsius to MIL-STD-810F basic and hot profiles. Patria demonstrated the naval application afloat in October 2018.
