Type 89
A gas-operated assault rifle chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO, developed by Howa as the standard infantry rifle of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, replacing the older Type 64. Its rotating-bolt design and three-round-burst mode reflect a design influenced by the U.S. M16 and Belgian FNC.
