Overview

The Pratt Miller EMAV (Expeditionary Modular Autonomous Vehicle) is a tracked, hybrid unmanned ground vehicle from Pratt Miller Defense, an Oshkosh Corporation subsidiary, offering a silent-watch capable hybrid powertrain and both teleoperated and autonomous operating modes. The deck measures roughly 3.84 m by 1.5 m and carries up to about 3,265 kg of payload; mobility figures include a 60 percent grade climb, 40 percent side-slope capability, a 60 cm vertical step climb and 28V/320V exportable power for onboard systems. In its armed EMAV-MCA configuration, the platform has been demonstrated mounting a Rafael Samson MCWS 30mm remote weapon station, which was live-fired in October 2021. EMAV remains a prototype/demonstrator platform rather than a program of record.

Full specifications

Performance

Speed, range, altitude and engagement capability.

Performance specifications
Max speed

Maximum level speed. For aircraft this is at optimal altitude; for ground vehicles, top road speed. Higher means faster response and better kinematic performance.

72 km/h
Stronger than 87% of UGVs

Physical

Dimensions, weight and crew.

Physical specifications
Length

Overall length including gun/probe where applicable.

3.84 m
Width

Overall width, matters for rail/road transport of vehicles.

1.5 m
Crew

Personnel required to operate. Fewer reduces exposure; autoloaders trade a loader for mechanical complexity.

0
Cargo payload

Maximum cargo the transport can carry. Higher means more lift per sortie. On an unmanned ground vehicle, this is the maximum mission payload the platform carries, including a weapon station.

Autonomy & control

How the platform moves, how much it does without an operator, and how far the control link reaches.

Autonomy & control specifications
Locomotion

How the platform moves: tracked, wheeled or legged. Tracks suit soft ground and heavy payloads, wheels favor road speed and range, legs handle stairs and rubble. Not a ranking, a trade-off.

Tracked
Autonomy level

How much the platform does without an operator, as the manufacturer describes it. Vendors do not use a common standard, so this is a coarse editorial bucket, not a certified rating.

Semi-autonomous

Specifications compiled from public Pratt Miller Defense and reference sources. Published defense figures are approximations, treat comparisons as directional. Last verified 2026-08-18.
