Overview

The THeMIS is Milrem Robotics' tracked, modular unmanned ground vehicle and the most widely fielded UGV in NATO, in service with 20 nations including 8 NATO members. Its 1,200 kg maximum cargo capacity is quoted alongside a lower 750 kg rated payload for sustained operation, and its 15-hour hybrid endurance includes roughly 1.5 hours of electric-only, silent running. Operator control is limited to a 1.5 km line-of-sight link, a figure some sources mislabel as an 'operational range' though it describes the control radio, not the vehicle's driving range. The open architecture accepts a wide range of remote weapon stations and counter-drone payloads from Kongsberg, FN Herstal, EOS, MBDA, Leonardo, Escribano, Valhalla, MSI-DS, Frontline and ST Kinetics. Milrem is majority owned by EDGE Group of the UAE since February 2023. On 6 October 2025 the Netherlands announced funding for more than 150 THeMIS units destined for Ukraine.

Full specifications

Performance

Speed, range, altitude and engagement capability.

Performance specifications
Max speed

Maximum level speed. For aircraft this is at optimal altitude; for ground vehicles, top road speed. Higher means faster response and better kinematic performance.

20 km/h
Stronger than 32% of UGVs
Endurance

Time on station. Critical for UAVs and patrol platforms, higher means longer persistent coverage. On a ground robot, published continuous run time on a full charge or fuel tank.

15 h
Stronger than 81% of UGVs

Physical

Dimensions, weight and crew.

Physical specifications
Length

Overall length including gun/probe where applicable.

2.47 m
Width

Overall width, matters for rail/road transport of vehicles.

2.04 m
Height

Overall height. Lower profile is harder to spot and hit for ground vehicles.

1.17 m
Combat weight

Fully loaded weight. Lighter eases transport and bridging limits; heavier often means more armor.

1,630 kg
Crew

Personnel required to operate. Fewer reduces exposure; autoloaders trade a loader for mechanical complexity.

0
Cargo payload

Maximum cargo the transport can carry. Higher means more lift per sortie. On an unmanned ground vehicle, this is the maximum mission payload the platform carries, including a weapon station.

1,200 kg
Stronger than 58% of UGVs

Propulsion

Autonomy & control

How the platform moves, how much it does without an operator, and how far the control link reaches.

Autonomy & control specifications
Locomotion

How the platform moves: tracked, wheeled or legged. Tracks suit soft ground and heavy payloads, wheels favor road speed and range, legs handle stairs and rubble. Not a ranking, a trade-off.

Tracked
Autonomy level

How much the platform does without an operator, as the manufacturer describes it. Vendors do not use a common standard, so this is a coarse editorial bucket, not a certified rating.

Supervised autonomy
Control range

Maximum published operator-to-vehicle control-link distance, normally line-of-sight radio. Higher keeps the operator further from the threat. This is NOT the vehicle's driving range.

1.5 km
Stronger than 40% of UGVs

Program

Cost, production scale and operators.

Program specifications
Operator countries

Number of countries operating the system. More operators means broader support ecosystem.
