Uran-9

Russian tracked combat UGV mounting a 30mm autocannon and ATGMs, marketed by Kalashnikov Concern, fielded in at least two 20-unit batches; its 2018 Syria combat trial was assessed by a Russian MoD research institute as not capable of performing its assigned tasks.

Overview

The Uran-9 is a tracked, remotely operated Russian combat UGV mounting a 30mm 2A72 autocannon, a 7.62mm PKT/PKTM machine gun, and an optional loadout of 9M120-1 Ataka or 9M133M Kornet-M anti-tank guided missiles, Shmel-M thermobaric rocket launchers, and Igla or 9K333 Verba man-portable air-defense missiles. It is powered by a YaMZ 5347-16 diesel engine, and it has been fielded and delivered to Russian forces in at least two 20-unit batches, though no independently verified combat use in Ukraine has been reported as of the most recent available reporting. Design authority for the platform is credited to JSC "766 UPTK" (JSC SKB MO RF), with Kalashnikov Concern listed as a co-producer and the system's public-facing marketer, hence its listing under the Kalashnikov Concern brand here. All performance and armament figures in this record, including a combat weight of roughly 10 tonnes (versus a separate Russian manufacturer claim of "up to 12 tonnes"), a road speed of 35km/h (25km/h cross-country, 10km/h off-road), and a control range of about 3km independently reported (versus the manufacturer datasheet's claim of "not less than 4km"), are Russian manufacturer or state claims and have not been independently verified; dimensions are omitted here entirely because sources conflict, with one set citing approximately 5.12m long by 2.53m wide by 2.5m high and another Russian source claiming 5.6m by 2.5m by 3.1m. Separately, and notably, a 2018 assessment by the Russian Ministry of Defence's own 3rd Central Scientific Research Institute, presented by Senior Research Officer A.P. Anisimov following the Uran-9's combat trial in Syria that year, concluded the system was "not capable of performing its assigned tasks": among low-rise buildings its control range collapsed to just 300-500 meters against the several kilometers claimed, operators experienced 17 cases of short-term control loss and 2 cases of long-term control loss lasting up to 1.5 hours, and sensor detection was limited to roughly 2km against a claimed 6km by day and 3km by night. That assessment's own conclusion was that Russian UGVs of this kind were 10 to 15 years away from being ready for such tasks. Because this finding comes from a Russian Ministry of Defence institute reporting adversely on a Russian system, it is treated here as a documented fact about what that report said, distinct from and not softened by the state-claimed specifications listed above.

Autonomy & control

How the platform moves, how much it does without an operator, and how far the control link reaches.

Autonomy & control specifications
Locomotion

How the platform moves: tracked, wheeled or legged. Tracks suit soft ground and heavy payloads, wheels favor road speed and range, legs handle stairs and rubble. Not a ranking, a trade-off.

Tracked
Autonomy level

How much the platform does without an operator, as the manufacturer describes it. Vendors do not use a common standard, so this is a coarse editorial bucket, not a certified rating.

Teleoperated
Control range

Maximum published operator-to-vehicle control-link distance, normally line-of-sight radio. Higher keeps the operator further from the threat. This is NOT the vehicle's driving range.
