Overview

The GDLS TRX (Tracked Robot X) is a tracked, hybrid-electric unmanned ground vehicle family developed by General Dynamics Land Systems as a Robotic Combat Vehicle-Light (RCV-L) Phase I contender for the US Army. The base vehicle is rated at a 9,072 kg gross vehicle weight, roughly split 1:1 between an approximately 4,536 kg vehicle and an approximately 4,536 kg payload allowance, and it is sized to be transportable by CH-47 helicopter or C-130 aircraft. TRX is built as a modular family rather than a single fixed configuration: publicized variants include the Breacher (obstacle/route clearance), Defender, Leonidas (carrying an Epirus high-power microwave counter-UAS payload), Razorback (configured to carry up to 50 Switchblade loitering munitions) and a short-range air defense (SHORAD) fit. Status is best described as announced/prototype, reflecting its role as a program contender rather than a fielded system.

Full specifications

Performance

Speed, range, altitude and engagement capability.

Performance specifications
Max speed

Maximum level speed. For aircraft this is at optimal altitude; for ground vehicles, top road speed. Higher means faster response and better kinematic performance.

72 km/h
Stronger than 87% of UGVs
Range

Maximum distance: ferry range for aircraft, operational range for vehicles, maximum engagement distance for missiles. Higher means more standoff or persistence.

483 km
Stronger than 81% of UGVs

Physical

Dimensions, weight and crew.

Physical specifications
Length

Overall length including gun/probe where applicable.

4.93 m
Height

Overall height. Lower profile is harder to spot and hit for ground vehicles.

2.26 m
Combat weight

Fully loaded weight. Lighter eases transport and bridging limits; heavier often means more armor.

9,072 kg
Crew

Personnel required to operate. Fewer reduces exposure; autoloaders trade a loader for mechanical complexity.

Autonomy & control

How the platform moves, how much it does without an operator, and how far the control link reaches.

Autonomy & control specifications
Locomotion

How the platform moves: tracked, wheeled or legged. Tracks suit soft ground and heavy payloads, wheels favor road speed and range, legs handle stairs and rubble. Not a ranking, a trade-off.

Tracked
Autonomy level

How much the platform does without an operator, as the manufacturer describes it. Vendors do not use a common standard, so this is a coarse editorial bucket, not a certified rating.

Semi-autonomous
