Overview
Shadow Rider is FNSS's tracked unmanned ground vehicle prototype, first shown at IDEF 2021 at a combat weight of 13,500kg with a 4,500kg payload capacity. It is diesel-powered, with a top speed above 50km/h and a range above 450km. The platform mounts a 25mm unmanned remote turret and operates semi-autonomously, with patrol and follow-the-leader modes, GNSS anti-jam navigation, and control over RF and LTE links. FNSS explicitly states Shadow Rider has no autonomous firing capability: target engagement always requires a human operator in the loop.
Full specifications
Performance
Speed, range, altitude and engagement capability.
| Max speed Maximum level speed. For aircraft this is at optimal altitude; for ground vehicles, top road speed. Higher means faster response and better kinematic performance. | 50 km/h |
|---|---|
| Range Maximum distance: ferry range for aircraft, operational range for vehicles, maximum engagement distance for missiles. Higher means more standoff or persistence. | 450 km |
Firepower
Armament, payload and guidance.
| Main armament Primary weapon: main gun, cannon or missile type. | 25mm unmanned remote turret |
|---|
Physical
Dimensions, weight and crew.
| Length Overall length including gun/probe where applicable. | 5.5 m |
|---|---|
| Width Overall width, matters for rail/road transport of vehicles. | 3 m |
| Combat weight Fully loaded weight. Lighter eases transport and bridging limits; heavier often means more armor. | 13,500 kg |
| Crew Personnel required to operate. Fewer reduces exposure; autoloaders trade a loader for mechanical complexity. | 0 |
| Cargo payload Maximum cargo the transport can carry. Higher means more lift per sortie. On an unmanned ground vehicle, this is the maximum mission payload the platform carries, including a weapon station. | 4,500 kg |
Propulsion
Engine, power and fuel.
| Propulsion type Turbofan, turboshaft, diesel, gas turbine, solid-fuel rocket, ramjet… | Diesel |

Autonomy & control
How the platform moves, how much it does without an operator, and how far the control link reaches.
| Locomotion How the platform moves: tracked, wheeled or legged. Tracks suit soft ground and heavy payloads, wheels favor road speed and range, legs handle stairs and rubble. Not a ranking, a trade-off. | Tracked |
|---|---|
| Autonomy level How much the platform does without an operator, as the manufacturer describes it. Vendors do not use a common standard, so this is a coarse editorial bucket, not a certified rating. | Semi-autonomous |
