Overview

PGM 500 is the lighter member of the PGM 500/2000 guided-bomb family, originally developed for the UAE from 1984 by International Signal and Control, continued through Ferranti and GEC-Marconi, and finalized by the Anglo-Italian Alenia Marconi Systems (formed 1998 from GEC-Marconi Dynamics and Finmeccanica's Alenia Difesa) before passing to current marketer MBDA. It carries a 227 kg (500 lb) warhead on a single underslung solid-fuel rocket booster, with interchangeable semi-active laser, TV or imaging-infrared seekers. Four rear "squashed-X" wings and nose fins give it a stated range of 15 km released at low level or 50 km from altitude. It entered UAE Air Force service in 1992 (laser/TV variants) and 1995 (IR variant) under the local name Hakim.
